natural dyeing techniques with Amanda de Beaufort

Saturday, 5/18/19 | 1:00pm | colly flowers | 143 Morris Street Morristown, NJ

Unlock the natural spectrum of color from flowers, wild plants, kitchen scraps and minerals!

Local natural dyer Amanda de Beaufort will introduce participants to the age-old process of botanical dyeing—the method of using plants to create sustainable, toxin-free dye—and specifically the fast and freeform technique of bundle dyeing.

This workshop will focus on exploring the basics of naturally dyeing with plants including ways to work with modifiers (to shift color), and mordants (to fix color on fabric).

Each participant will leave with a silk scarf of their own creation. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own small sized natural fiber (cotton, wool, silk, linen, etc.) garment or item to dye as well as any fresh or old/dried flowers. Any synthetic content will not be suitable for dyeing.

All materials including natural dyes, silk scarf and flowers are included in the price of the workshop.

No previous dyeing experience necessary!
